Spiritual Eyeglasses

John 1

John starts out much different than Matthew and Luke. Mary and Joseph are not mentioned in the story. John merely says the Word become flesh and lived here among us. (verse 14) Jesus wasn't recognized or accepted. (verses 10 and 11)

Spiritual eyeglasses give us a clear vision of who God is, who others are, and who we are.

Verses 15 and 30 are a verses about humility. John the Baptist was an excellent preacher, but he was content for Jesus to have a much higher place. Humility makes intimacy with God possible by diminishing and eliminating self-idolatry. Biblical humility has less to do with personal modesty than it does having a high view of God, a generous view of others, and a healthy view of self. Spiritual glasses give us a clear vision of who God is, who others are, and who we are. God will do great things through us when we are content to do the tasks God wants us to do.

Think of a few things God is asking you to do in your life. Ask God for the skills and strength to be faithful in doing these things regardless of whether you get recognition or not.
