Three Things

This morning's column...

This is the time of year students and teachers head back to school. Sports are starting. Regular activities begin as well. Schedules become more structured. And it is the start of the church year.

Our WE Serve Day saw hundreds of us serving in locations all over Omaha. Every year we do this, I am always amazed the impact one church can have on a community!

Our kids (birth to 5th grade) have moved to the next grade level in the Frog Pond. We have had over 170 of them each of the last two weeks!

Our youth ministry (6th to 12th grade) kicked-off with a big party at the ministry center last week. It was exciting to see all the energy and enthusiasm.

Our small groups for adults will be starting next week. We have over three dozen of them to choose from.

Our fall sermon series kicks off Sunday, September 7th. It’s called Freeway. We will explore what freedom in life can look like and how to experience it.

Our first ever lot party will be Sunday, September 14th. We will worship, play, pray, eat, connect, and explore together. It will be the first opportunity for many to walk our Harrison Street property.

As the church year begins, I encourage you to do three things. These are what Jesus did daily and are practices that will bring us closer to God, link us more closely with others, and build God’s Kingdom right here in our area.

Connect

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals, and to prayer. –Acts 2:42

Join a small group. You will meet new friends. Existing friendships will be strengthened. You will learn from others. Your experiences will help others. You will support and be supported. You will have fun. You will experience God together. When I ask most people what they like best about The Water’s Edge, the most common answer I get is: My small group.

Serve

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many. -Mark 10:45

We have so many opportunities to serve inside and outside the church. We are in the middle of our once-a-year campaign to gather new servants on Sundays. You can greet people at the front doors, serve food, set-up chairs, help with the children’s ministry, and about a dozen other things! You will meet new people. You will serve others. You will help the church prevail. And you will grow. Register today or email jill@watersedgeomaha.com.

Invite

I pray that you will be active in sharing what you believe. –Philemon 1:6

A simple invitation from you to another can open up doors of healing, hope, community, and salvation for others. In the next two weeks we have two great events to invite others:

September 7th – Freeway begins. It will be a six-week journey to freedom.

September 14th – Lot party. It will be such a great morning to celebrate God’s provision and our future.

Invest in others by inviting!

In Christ,

Craig

The Day WE All Skipped Church

Here is what happens when hundreds of people skip church and serve their community.
